Work LIFE
Job training is a core pillar of the USCA LIFE program. LIFE students take several courses that are designed for them to develop professional skills. Students are expected to arrive on time and be appropriately dressed, partake in mock interviews, give presentations, fill out job applications, and build resumes.
Students work about 5-20 hours per week each semester (with support from staff). During their freshman year, students complete an unpaid internship on campus. During their sophomore year, students work within the campus and local communities, under the guidance of LIFE Coaches. In students' junior and senior years they begin working 20 hours a week in the local community or sometimes on campus.
Students gain valuable real-world experience through a variety of internship and employment opportunities. While some positions are unpaid and focus on skill development, many of our community partners offer paid employment, allowing students to earn a paycheck while building confidence and workplace experience.
