Department of English - Temporary Faculty (TFAC) Pool
The University of South Carolina Aiken is collecting application materials for the Department of English Part-time Temporary Instructor Pool.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the first-year composition sequence:
- ENGL A101 — Composition (3 credits). A course in the composing process with attention to invention, arrangement, and style and closely supervised practice in reading and writing. Students must complete ENGL A101 with a grade of C or better in order to fulfill English general education requirements.
- ENGL A102 — Composition and Literature (3 credits). A course in the writing of expository and critical essays with an introduction to literature and including a research paper. (Prerequisite: grade of C or better in ENGL A101.) Students must complete ENGL A102 with a grade of C or better in order to fulfill English general education requirements.
- Courses are taught primarily in person on the USC Aiken campus; opportunities to teach online sections may also be available for qualified candidates. Adjunct instructors are responsible for delivering instruction consistent with departmental course outcomes, holding regular student availability hours, providing timely feedback on student writing, maintaining accurate grade records, and submitting grades by university deadlines.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in English, or a master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in English. Salary is commensurate and competitive with qualifications and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching first-year composition at the college level
- Familiarity with process-based writing pedagogy and the teaching of research writing
- Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to support instruction
- Experience or demonstrated readiness to teach in online modalities
