Freshman Student Orientation

Freshman Orientation

The freshman orientation program is designed for students who are 2017 high school graduates or who have graduated in the past few years.  Transfer students who have earned less than 16 credits at another institution should also attend a freshman orientation program.

The orientation program for incoming freshmen is designed to assist you in your transition into your first year of college. The orientation program will consist of informative sessions about campus procedures and policies; how to get involved in campus activities; opportunities to meet faculty, staff, and other new students; introduction to your chosen academic program, policies, curriculum, and degree requirements; class advisement;and registering for fall 2017 classes. The program is held over two days.

August 21:  8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (lunch provided)
(Optional solar eclipse event from 1:00 pm. - 3:30 p.m.; no charge)
August 22:  8:30 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m. (lunch provided)

Freshman Convocation

In addition to the orientation program, freshman students will also need to attend Freshman Convocation on Wednesday, August 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Freshman Convocation is the final event of orientation and is the official university welcome for all first year students. 

The program will focus on the required reading for all freshmen of the book entitled The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. 

Attending Freshman Convocation is mandatory for all freshmen.
