USC Aiken Earns National Ranking for Online Programs
February 10, 2017
The University of South Carolina Aiken has – once again -- been ranked among U.S. News and World Report’s Best Online Programs Rankings.
The university received a 2017 Best Online Bachelor’s Program ranking, only one of five awarded in South Carolina. Nationally, USC Aiken is among the top 100 online programs.
USC Aiken’s online offerings include a RN-to BSN online program. This program is designed for students who are licensed RNs who have either an associate degree or diploma in nursing and who want to earn a professional, BSN degree. All of these online courses are taught by full-time Pacer faculty who are “vested in our students’ success."
"This ranking means that the quality of our program is recognized nationally, and we are providing an excellent program to our students for a reasonable cost," said Dr. Thayer McGahee, dean of the USC Aiken School of Nursing.
"It is possible for students to earn their BSN in one calendar year if they desire. Since it is completely online, they are also able to work full-time while they earn this degree. In our endeavor to increase the number of BSN-prepared nurses by 2020, we plan to continue to make improvements to this program to make it more conducive to those who are working full-time."
Additionally, through Palmetto College -- launched Fall 2013 -- USC Aiken provides an accredited online degree completion program in business administration, with a concentration in management. This program was also highlighted as part of the U.S. News and World Report ranking.
"The fact that we have received this ranking so early in our existence means a great deal. Specifically, it means that in a market as competitive as online learning, Palmetto College has distinguished itself as a quality program," said Mary Claire Millies, USC Aiken’s Palmetto College coordinator.
The Palmetto College program has the same quality, rigor and requirements as USC Aiken’s on-campus programs, according to Millies. The online business administration program meets the same Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation standards as the university’s traditional classroom program.
"The only difference is that the course materials are delivered online."
USC Aiken, a comprehensive university in the University of South Carolina system, offers undergraduate and master’s degrees to more than 3,500 students in 50 programs of study. USC Aiken is ranked the #1 public regional college in the South by U.S. News & World Report’s guide "America’s Best Colleges." The 2017 distinction marks USC Aiken’s 19th consecutive ranking among the top three in this category and its 12th time in first place.
