Welcome to the USC Aiken Department of Biology and Geology

We are a department in which some 250 students are becoming Biologists by working with a dedicated and talented group of 15 faculty members.  Our students have a variety of degree choices, including a BA in Biology, a BS in Biology with a concentration in Environmental Remediation and Restoration, and BS in Biology with numerous course options that allow students to meet a broad range of interests. Additionally, we offer a minor in Geology as well as transferable coursework into a Geology major.

Research is an important part of being a Biologist, and at USC Aiken, our students work with a chosen faculty member to develop and carry out an independent laboratory project. Many of our students are co-authors on peer-reviewed papers and give presentations at local, state, and regional conferences.  Therefore, the total Biology experience at USC Aiken is grounded in coursework supplemented with the actual experience of putting biological concepts into practice in the laboratory. This builds a strong foundation in the science and makes our students highly competitive as they move to the next level of their career.
